49ers trade for Chiefs WR Skyy Moore
Decimated by injuries, the San Francisco 49ers have been reportedly working the phones trying to find some extra help for the receivers room. With Brandon Aiyuk out until at least Week 6, Jauan Jennings still dealing with a calf injury (and a few missing dollars on his contract), the news of Demarcus Robinson’s suspension, and young guys like Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing also missing time, the 49ers are desperately looking for pass catchers.
Those reports were deemed true after it was announced, per Jordan Schultz, that the 49ers have traded for Chiefs WR Skyy Moore, and will also swap 6th and 7th round picks next year.

Moore, who is only 24 years old, is entering his fourth year in the NFL, and over that time has accrued 494 yards on 43 catches for one touchdown. While those may not be the flashiest statistics, there is some upside to the trade. Moore would see a much-needed change of scenery after struggling to find a consistent role in the Kansas City Chiefs offense, and who better to unlock a young receivers talent than 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. Moore is also an outstanding return man, something the 49ers have not had in many years. He had a recent 88-yard punt return against the Seattle Seahawks, showcasing the agility and speed that lead to him being a second-round pick in 2022. As do all players in the NFL, Moore has his fair share of struggles as well. He has struggled with dropped passes, and fumbled returns in his three-year bout with the Chiefs. This will be the first thing the 49ers need to address if Moore is going to contribute in any sort of way in 2025.
For a player at his age, and at the cost of a late-round pick swap, the 49ers really aren’t losing much in the deal. They retain a pick, and have a young, fast receiver in their room while their guys get healthy. Something they need more than ever, but only time will tell what sort of role Moore will play on this team moving forward.
